WHERE

The Hazel&Cass Studio – 162 Kendal Avenue, Christchurch, New Zealand.
This is located about a 5 minute drive from the airport, so there are heaps of accommodation options within walking distance of the studio, and you will be able to grab an uber/taxi to get from the airport to your accomodation.

Kickstart or reinvigorate your work with our intensive two-day workshop.

Across these two days, you’ll be working alongside me, my sister/assistant Maddy and two other photographers at our specialised newborn studio. Here we will we demonstrate live newborn sessions, you’ll get some hands-on experience shooting alongside me, and we’ll go over all of our editing, pricing, branding and marketing. You’ll have the opportunity to take photos and get immediate critique, ask any burning questions, and get our advice on anything that you’re stuck on. Plus, if there’s anything you forget to ask during the day, there will be plenty of time to chat over dinner on the first night and drinks on the second!

We have only 3 people at each workshop, so that I can get to know everyone personally, and give each some truly valuable instruction, feedback and advice. Along with 6 years experience as a successful newborn photographer, I’ve taught roughly 30 other photographers in one-on-one mentoring, a large workshop for NZIPP in 2018, plus these more intimate workshops since 2020. All my students have left with an invaluable pool of knowledge to further their skills, plus fresh inspiration and motivation to kickstart their creativity.

WHAT TO EXPECT

• This is located about a 5 minute drive from the airport, so there are heaps of accommodation options within walking distance of the studio, and you will be able to grab an Uber or Taxi to get from the airport to your accomodation. You’ll need to organise your own flights, transport and accomodation.

• You can rock up to the studio around 9:30am each day for a quick introduction and briefing before our newborn model arrives at 10am. The sessions will go on till roughly 1pm each day - but obviously this all depends on how baby goes.

• On the first day I will be teaching all of my essential tips, swaddling and workflow. This will mostly be demonstration, but I will stop often to let everyone take turns taking photos on your own cameras, so that we can work on nailing those angles. Towards the end of this session we will also do some parent shots.

• On the second day, I'll start with demonstrating how I do my newborn and sibling shots, before we get back into more newborn work. What we do on this second day depends on what we were able to cover on the first day, and also what you guys would like to go over again.

• You are completely welcome to take photos and videos on your phone at anytime during the session to help you remember key points of posing etc. But obviously you are not permitted to share these around with any other photographers who haven't been to one of my workshops or mentoring sessions.

• In the afternoons you guy will be able to sit back on the couch and watch while I demonstrate how I edit my images on my projector. We will also go over along with branding, marketing, pricing, product, viewings etc. over the two afternoons.

• I am a completely open book throughout these two days, so feel free to ask me anything at literally any point - and no question is too silly! I want to make sure you guys get absolutely everything you can out of our time together, and walk away bursting with new knowledge, ideas and excitement to get into your next newborn session.

• I recommend organising for a newborn model to come into your studio asap once you get home, as it’s best to immediately start applying what you’ve learnt to get the most out of it!

FRIDAY:

• 9:30am ­­­– Introduction + brief
  Get to know everyone, tour studio, session prep.

• 10:00am ­­­– Newborn workflow + parents
  Wrapping, posing, lighting, angles, safety, parent shots.

• 1:00pm ­­­– Lunch
  Catered nibbles at the studio

• 2:00pm ­­­– Editing + Branding + Marketing
  Digital work flow, editing, style, branding, marketing.

• 6:00pm ­­­– Dinner (optional)
  Head down to a local restaurant to wind down and discuss the day over dinner.
  

SATURDAY:

• 9:30am ­­­– Brief
  Discuss session ahead.

• 10:00am – Newborn + sibling
  Photographing siblings, workflow as requested by students.

• 1:00pm – lunch
  Catered nibbles at the studio.

• 2:00pm – Editing + Pricing
  Editing, product, pricing.

• 5:00pm – Wind down drinks (optional)
  Casual drinks at the studio.

A $300 non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your spot and flexible payment plans can be organised if needed.

The remaining fee is due 2 weeks prior to the class date.  You will receive an email with a link to make final payment.

Cancellation: If for any reason (including COVID related situations), I have to cancel a class I will provide a full refund to all attendees.
If you are no longer able to attend the class for whatever reason but have already paid the full class amount, this is non-refundable. But you can sell your spot to another photographer. Please let me know as soon as possible prior to the class date so details can be transferred.
